As a home inspector Wood Rot is a problem that I report on a lot that honestly is easliy avoidable. 

I suggest to catch it early you can follow these simple steps. First use a screwdriver to probe the wood trim around windows, doors, railings and decks. If you find that the wood is weak you will need to replace the trim board. It’s best to make repairs now before the spring rains do more damage to the exposed wood. Wood rot will only get worse and cause more damage to the building materials behind and around it.
